HyperText Markup Language [HTML] is the markup language with which web pages are written so that browsers can display them. HTML was developed in the early 1990's and made it possible for the modern internet to exist. HTML is what makes links actually work, so that one can view web pages that might be located on a server anywhere around the world, on one's own computer or phone.
