A favicon is an icon created to represent a website when it is bookmarked, and when it displays in a browser tab. It actually consists of a set of very similar icons of various sizes for use across many platforms. "Favicon" is a portmanteau of "favorite" and "icon". One should have a favicon as part of the branding of a website; this requires creating various favicon images and putting them on one's website, along with placing code on the website. Favicons are typically created starting with a square 300 x 300 pixel image (jpg, png, or gif).
