Domain Name Spam was an old SEO technique where someone would buy up every domain they could that contained keywords related to a particular term, such as "fire insurance" or "salted pretzels" and then put up spammy, duplicative websites on each of those domains, hoping that Google wouldn't notice that these crappy websites belonged to the same company or individual and were not ALL worth displaying in their search results. This technique worked well in the early days of the web.... Some companies were able to fill all ten of the top ten spots on some search engines with "domain name spam." This is part of what brought about the demise of Altavista.
